St. Philothea's has been truly blessed with their first, full-time priest and his family. Fr. Anthony Salzman, Presby. Christine, and their two sons, Stephanos and Maximos arrived in Athens in August, 1999, and they have helped in countless ways to move the community forward and to nourish it spiritually. We are very thankful for them.
Fr. Anthony and Presby. Christine both graduated from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. in 1989. They lived in Thessaloniki, Greece for six years, where Fr. Anthony studied Byzantine Iconography and they immersed themselves in the life of the Church. Father Anthony is an artist/iconographer and continues today to paint icons for churches and families. You may see some of his work at www.imageandlikeness.com Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta appointed Fr. Anthony as the OCF coordinator for the college ministry of the Metropolis. Our local OCF chapter at the University of Georgia in Athens is very active and involved not only here but on the national level as well. Fr. Anthony is a past president of the CMA (Campus Ministers Association) at UGA and has been an inspiring voice of Orthodoxy to the student body. He also is a guest lecturer at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, UGA Continuing Ed. School and OCAF (Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation), teaching about Byzantine Art History and Iconography and spreading the word about Orthodoxy through the arts.
Presbytera Christine is a Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos Board Member and coordinator of the Philoptochos Spiritual Enrichment programs. Currently she and Fr. Anthony plan the annual Clergy Family Retreats at the Diakonia Center in Salem, SC that minister to the Clergy and their families within the Metropolis.
